Iran to set up first ever solar thermal power plant

TEHRAN, Jan. 30 (MNA) – The very first solar thermal power plant ever made in Iran will be set up in the province of Yazd by 2009 to localize the construction technology, said the deputy minister of energy and the manager of the solar thermal electricity project.

The project located 35 km away from Yazd will include two gas turbine units with a capacity of 159 MW each, a steam unit with a capacity of 132 MW, and a solar farm with a capacity of 17,000 KWH, added Mohammad Reza Modarresi.

 

He said that some 50 MW of solar farms will be produced by 2010 in form of solar thermal power plant in the country. The Moshanir and Lahmeyer company of Germany have been selected to carry out the feasibility studies required for the project which is forecast to cost government some 200 million dollars.
